Full Harvset/Hunter’s Supermoon in Aries

On October 6th the Full Hunter’s Moon rises in the sign of fiery and forward-moving Aries. It also happens to be a Supermoon, and will appear larger and brighter in the night sky and its influence will be stronger than your average full moon. And because this is also the closest Full Moon to the Equinox, it’s also the Harvest Moon, so even more energy around it. Supermoons have a way of amplifying whatever feelings, beliefs, or experiences we’re going through at the moment, and with this Full Moon in action-oriented Aries just following a massive Eclipse season, I like to think of it as doing a final inventory after the Eclipse season to make sure everything we wanted to work through, change, or clear out completely gets the attention it deserves. We just came through the shadow of the eclipse, and now we’re being offered a pretty big opportunity for a fresh start with this Full Moon. Compared to September’s eclipses, this Full Moon is a bit more relaxed. It’s not calm exactly, but it does bring an opportunity to pause, breathe, and begin sorting through what is worth keeping and what is ready to be released.

This Full Moon is full of dualities, and it even gets two names to reinforce the point. Because it is the Full Moon closest to the autumn equinox, it is the Harvest Moon. But traditionally, October’s Full Moon is also called the Hunter’s Moon. Usually the Harvest Moon falls in September, but in 2025 it lands in early-ish October, which is why this Full Moon gets to be called by both names. Farmers once relied on the Harvest Moon’s light to finish bringing in the crops before winter, while hunters used the following moonlight to track game through fields that had been cleared. I know in the work I do at the farm, we see a big increase in predation and activity with the local wildlife. Raptors, foxes, coyotes, and the cats seem more energized for hunting, knowing that colder weather is on the horizon, so they are basically fattening up before the long, cold season. Harvest is about gathering and discernment. You keep what sustains you and let the rest become compost. The Hunter’s Moon adds another layer, asking what is worth pursuing now that the landscape has changed, and what must be let go so energy is not wasted chasing the wrong thing. Together, the Harvest Moon and Hunter’s Moon remind us that the end of one season always requires choices: what we carry, what we release, and what we actively go after next. Symbolically, this blends two important themes: knowing what sustains us, what’s worth pursuing, and what is better left behind as we prepare for the cold, dark season.

Because this Full Moon falls in Aries during Libra season, we are working with the dynamic between two opposing signs. Aries is the fire within the self, the part of us that wants to act, to push forward, to move without waiting for permission. Aries is a trailblazer and can be bold, brave, and unapologetically direct. It can also be impatient, self-centered, and quick to burn hot without thinking things through. Libra, on the other hand, is relational and focused on equilibrium. Libra looks for balance and weighs the needs of family, friends, and the collective. It is diplomatic, thoughtful, and attuned to others. But Libra can also lean too far into people-pleasing, losing sight of its own needs in an effort to keep the peace. When Aries and Libra are out of sync, we either end up steamrolling others in pursuit of our own goals or silencing ourselves in order to make everyone else comfortable. Aries may want to charge ahead while Libra is still reviewing the pros and cons. But when they work in harmony, their strengths combine and complement one another. Aries emboldens us with courage and initiative, Libra offers balance and perspective, and together they make it possible to accomplish something meaningful without burning bridges or sacrificing the self.

We’ve also got some planetary influences around this Moon that add their own flavor to the mix. Mars, ruler of Aries, is traveling through Scorpio, a sign where its energy runs deep. Mars in Scorpio is about stamina, focus, and transformation. It can help us push through resistance or finally deal with something we’ve been avoiding, but it can also stir control issues or power struggles if we push too hard. Another potent element to this Supermoon mix is Mercury, the planet of communication, in Scorpio squaring Pluto, the god of the Underworld, in Aquarius, sharpening the mind, intensifying communication, and bringing hidden truths to the surface. Conversations carry more weight now, and words may land with unusual force. If we use our words carelessly, they may cause some scars, but if we are deliberate and compassionate with our honesty, then how we communicate can cut through illusion and bring clarity to our relationships, even with the self. Then there is Venus in Virgo opposite Saturn in Pisces, which turns attention to relationships, values, and self-worth. This aspect can bring up insecurities or expose where we have been settling for less than we deserve. It may feel sobering, but it offers the chance to set clearer boundaries, strengthen commitments, and align ourselves with what is real and sustainable rather than a fantasy version we’ve created in our heads. We may find our relationships being tested, but this transit can strengthen the bonds that are meant to last, even if they transform into something different than they’ve been. Put this all together and you get some pretty powerful and transformative energy that, used with intention and care, can clear the air and make relationships stronger, healthier, and more in alignment with what we want for the future.

Full Moons are always times when emotions rise to the surface and are considered the culmination of the work. If New Moons begin the mini cycle, Full Moons mark completion. This one is unique: a Supermoon in Aries, the very first sign of the zodiac. For me, it feels like that moment of both ending and beginning all at once. Full Moons are peaks in the lunar cycle, moments when things feel heightened and more visible. This one is not about predicting outcomes. It is about recognizing the atmosphere we are in and responding with presence. You may feel pulled to act, to set a boundary, to speak honestly, or to release something that has grown too heavy. Aries fire alone can be reckless. Libra balance alone can stall into indecision. But together they remind us that we can move forward with both courage and care.

The Supermoon in Aries reminds us that courage comes in many forms. It is not only the dramatic leap or the bold declaration. Sometimes it is the quiet decision to finally put something down. Sometimes it is the willingness to be honest with ourselves. Sometimes it is simply taking the next step, even when the outcome is not yet clear. This Moon invites us to gather what has ripened, release what has become too heavy, and walk into the next season with clarity, balance, and the fire to keep moving forward.
